On the Snow episode 1

While the first signs of our winter weather appear the effect of bad environmental management appear each year in ever more striking detail. A recent article in OutThereCO regarding Invasive Species highlights the problems we face. The Zebra Muscle has now infected lakes, rivers, streams, and very possibility private water sources that draw water from the Colorado River. This invasive species can cause significant damage to any water system that becomes infected. It was most likely brought to the great lakes region in the late 80’S by transatlantic commercial ships who discharged their ballast who had previously docked in European freshwater ports. The muscle is native to the Caspian and Black Seas along with others. They are very destructive to water systems as the can clog up pipes, hydro electric systems, along with other systems dependent on water for cooling or power generation. Because these vessels are allowed to dump ballast without knowing it’s contents mishaps like this will occur. Presently the EPA as directed by our current administration is ending many clean water and air restrictions related to any climate related issue. This ignorant abuse will result in more problems going forward. Climate change is real along with ignoring damage that can be done from unintended consequences. Something as simple as a ship dumping its ballast water can have far reaching consequences. It’s everyone’s responsibility to take of our planet. Even if we have those who want to continue to use the Earth as a dumpling ground the majority don’t. So speak up, even if it means being labeled a tree hugger or environmental lunatic.
